Meet the Editors: Imani Green

As we near the end of our window of deliberation for submissions to The Heritage Journal: Lineage, it feels appropriate to introduce our final editor.

Last but certainly not least, meet our Visual Art Editor, Imani Green.

The Bio:

Meet Imani: a brand design aficionado and UX enthusiast who's all about weaving tales through her creative expertise. She's a connoisseur of art museums, constantly soaking up inspiration from the canvases that speak volumes. But her obsession? Beautiful libraries. She finds solace and endless creativity among the shelves of books.

Beyond her professional passions, Imani is a fierce advocate for encouraging the Black community to embrace the great outdoors. She believes in bringing people of color closer to nature, fostering a connection often overlooked. And her cultural heritage? It's not just a part of her—it's the driving force behind her innovative approaches to unite people and brands authentically.

Imani’s on a mission to break the barriers between brands and their audience, infusing every space she touches with a deep cultural resonance. Her goal? To forge impactful, genuine connections that resonate on a personal level. She's all about making magic happen in the most casual, down-to-earth way.

The Interview:

Q1: Can you share a bit about your background and what drew you to Heritage? What are you most excited about in your role as Visual Art Editor?

My Gullah Geechee background has been the heartbeat of my journey. Growing up surrounded by its rich culture, I found myself deeply drawn to the power of storytelling—be it through the tantalizing flavors of our food, the soul-stirring melodies of our songs, or the captivating art of oration.

This connection to storytelling sparked my passion for heritage preservation. It's the very essence that drove me to embrace the role of Visual Art Editor. I'm thrilled about the opportunity to amplify diverse narratives, especially those often underrepresented in mainstream conversations. The chance to weave these stories through visuals, to bring life to the untold or overlooked, is what excites me the most.

Q2: Share a fun fact or hobby outside of your professional life that helps you stay creative and inspired.

I am a huge fan of nature so hiking is how I calm my mind and really disconnect, it’s literally a breath of fresh air for me. Going to museums and doing research on random topics inspire me to stay creative, I love learning about different cultures and connection.

Q3: If you could have dinner with any fictional character, who would it be, and what would you ask them?

Issa Dee from Insecure, I have a pile of questions about her relationship with Lawrence.

Q4: Do you have a favorite quote that inspires you? Share it with us. What does this quote mean to you? “There are years that ask questions and years that answer.”- Zora Neale Hurston

This quote by Zora Neale Hurston really resonates with me because it captures life’s rhythm, you know? Some years, they're all about throwing questions at you—kind of like a pop quiz from the universe. And then, there are those golden years when things just click into place. They feel like the universe is finally handing over the answers to those burning questions.

I love it because it’s a reminder that life’s this mix of mystery and clarity, a journey where you don’t always get immediate answers. But when those answers do come, it’s like the universe saying, “Hey, here’s what you’ve been waiting for!” It’s that ebb and flow that keeps things interesting.
